The challenge

Food Specialities Limited operates in a specialised business to business market where buying decisions are slow, technical & driven by trust. When they approached us, their online visibility did not reflect the strength of the business behind it. Search was producing very little, & what it did produce was rarely the kind of enquiry the sales team could act on.

The objective was not traffic. It was a reliable pipeline of qualified enquiries, & the credibility needed to compete in a category where buyers scrutinise the supplier as closely as the product.

Several issues were holding the site back. Multiple pages were written around overlapping terms, so the site was competing against itself & splitting its own authority across near duplicate URLs. The genuine technical expertise inside the business, the research work & the product innovation, was almost invisible on the website, which left nothing for a search engine to read as evidence of authority. Meanwhile the fastest growing part of the category, plant based products, was being targeted by competitors & largely ignored on their own site.

None of this was going to be solved by ranking a homepage. It needed structural work.

Our approach

We worked on four fronts at once, because in a market this competitive no single lever moves the result on its own.

We audited every page competing for the same intent & consolidated them, applying a 301 redirect rule so that authority accumulated on one strong page instead of being divided across several weak ones. This is unglamorous work & it produced some of the earliest gains, because the site stopped undermining itself.

Experience, expertise, authoritativeness & trust are only useful if they are visible on the page. We surfaced the company's own innovations, technical processes & specialist knowledge, attributed content to the people who actually hold that expertise, & structured it so both readers & crawlers could recognise the depth behind it. In a category where buyers are cautious, this changed how the site read to a human as much as to an algorithm.

We optimised the company's industry news & updates for search rather than treating them as an internal noticeboard. Category news carries genuine search demand in B2B markets, & publishing it properly gave the site a steady stream of relevant, timely pages that established the brand as an active voice rather than a static brochure.

We targeted high volume plant based terms that mapped to real products, building dedicated pages for the intent behind each cluster. This opened a lead source the business had not previously reached through organic search.

Finally we built high authority links through direct outreach & digital PR, earning coverage on the basis of the company's own data & expertise rather than paying for placement. In a technical B2B category, a link from a publication buyers already read does more than volume ever will.

The outcome

Within nine months the programme had exceeded the targets set at the start of the engagement.

It is worth reading those numbers together rather than separately. Sessions grew faster than conversions, which is normal when a site expands into new keyword territory & starts attracting earlier stage research traffic. The commercial result held because the consolidation work & the E-E-A-T improvements raised the quality of the pages those visitors landed on.

The most durable part of this engagement is not any single number. It is that the site now has a clean structure with no internal competition, visible evidence of genuine expertise, & an authority profile built from earned coverage. Those are assets that keep working between campaigns.
